In total, FCT evaluated 336 R&D Units across the country, of which only 40% achieved the Excellent rating. In the case of Iscte, seven of its eight research units achieved this level of excellence.

Iscte Research Units rated Excellent:

• Business Research Unit (BRU-Iscte)

• Center for International Studies (CEI-Iscte)

• Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte)

• Center for Social Research and Intervention (CIS-Iscte)

• Center for Studies on Socioeconomic Change and Territory (Dinâmia'CET-Iscte)

• Center for Research Networking in Anthropology (CRIA)

• Institute of Telecommunications (IT)

This result represents a significant upgrade for five of Iscte's Research Centers, whose rating increased from Very Good to Excellent: CEI-Iscte, CIES-Iscte, Dinâmia'CET-Iscte, CRIA and IT. In turn, BRU-Iscte and CIS-Iscte maintain the Excellent rating they achieved in the previous evaluation. The Information Sciences, Technology and Architecture Research Center (ISTAR-Iscte) maintains its Very Good rating.

FCT's evaluation was based on the scientific and technological activities carried out between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2023, as well as the objectives, strategies, activity plan and organizational model proposed for the period 2025 to 2029. More than 315 international evaluators took part in this process, organized into 29 disciplinary panels and coming from scientific and academic institutions in 35 countries.

These results reflect Iscte's strategic commitment to excellent research and affirm its position as a research university of national and international reference.
